A Public Adjuster is licensed by the state which requires successful completion of a rigorous state authorized course followed by a written State Exam in most States. Licensing by the State also requires the PA to be bonded. They are also required to take ongoing continuous education courses to maintain their license. The title typically used for this adjuster is known as a “PA” for Public Adjuster in the insurance industry. They are typically self employed and contract their services directly with the policy holder (insured) to handle and often file the claims on behalf of a policy holder to the Insurance Companies. The PA is paid a percentage of the proceeds from the Insurance claim for compensated damage from the covered loss directly from the insured. Typically there is no compensation if the claim was denied by the carrier. The PA is the legal contact with the insurance company and any of their representatives.
